Our Projects
Dearah Association for Social and Humanitarian Action - ASHA NGOProject NIDAN: Protecting Childhood Along the Border
Implemented in vulnerable villages along the Indo-Bangladesh border, Project NIDAN works to create child marriage and child labour-free communities by activating responsive, block-level child protection systems. The initiative protects at-risk children from exploitation, trafficking, and abuse by uniting local communities, government officials, and reinforced anti-trafficking forces. To achieve this, the project strengthens Village Child Protection Committees (VLCPCs) and mobilises local women and parents to act as watchdogs against rights violations. Currently, Project NIDAN nurtures 1,300 adolescent children through education on democratic processes, protection mechanisms, and creative sessions, ensuring that children actively exercise their right to participation to lead the fight for their own safety.
Building Climate Resilience in the Sundarbans
ASHA NGO has been implementing a range of climate-resilient initiatives in the climate-impacted Sundarbans region, where communities face recurring challenges from cyclones, flooding, salinity intrusion, and environmental degradation. The programme aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households by promoting sustainable livelihoods, climate-smart agriculture, disaster preparedness, natural resource management, and community-led adaptation strategies.
Working closely with local communities, women’s groups, farmers, and youth, ASHA supports the adoption of resilient farming practices, water conservation measures, mangrove restoration, and risk reduction mechanisms. The programme also focuses on enhancing awareness and building local capacities to address the growing impacts of climate change.
Through these interventions, ASHA seeks to improve food security, protect livelihoods, strengthen community resilience, and contribute to a sustainable and climate-resilient future for the people of the Sundarbans.
Project ECHO: Empowered Community on Health Orientation
Implemented across 49 remote villages in the Sundarbans region of North 24 Parganas, Project ECHO transforms rural healthcare by cultivating a sense of collective responsibility and political will toward preventive health management. Driven by the core pillars of awareness, action, and access, the initiative bridges critical service gaps by connecting marginalized families to high-quality, non-discriminatory medical care and National Rural Health Mission benefits. The project actively nurtures mothers and adolescent girls on vital issues—such as reproductive health, exclusive breastfeeding, anaemia, and chronic diseases—while utilizing trained peer leaders to connect adolescent girls with essential ANWESHA clinic services. Serving as the vital backbone of this ecosystem, 152 Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) equipped with basic clinical and diagnostic skills deliver dedicated care, earning local dignity as empowered resource persons who lead a sustainable, community-driven health network.
Project JAGRITI: Gender Equity and Justice
Adolescent girls are a vital strength of our society; however, many remain vulnerable to trafficking, abuse and early marriage. To safeguard their rights and ensure a brighter future, ASHA NGO has undertaken initiatives to address and prevent the various forms of violence, exploitation and harm faced by adolescent girls, which are often rooted in gender-based discrimination.
The project actively engages mothers’ groups to promote a deeper understanding of gender equality within families and communities, encouraging supportive and inclusive environments for girls. Simultaneously, adolescent boys are encouraged to participate in community-based initiatives on gender justice, empowering them to become allies and advocates for positive social change. Through these collective efforts, the project aims to foster gender-equitable communities where girls can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunities.
